Papal Visit News Update.

  1.  The national organising committee have indicated that there are still places available at Bellahouston.  If you wish to go please put your name on the list at back of the Church today.  I have to reply by Monday with any additional people wishing to go.
  2. On the day of the visit (September 16th) a big screen will be in place in the Church on which you can view the events of the day.  This will be switched on at 10.30 a.m. and will take us through the events of the morning i.e. the arrival of the Holy Father, his meeting with her Majesty the Queen, the Procession to the Cardinal’s House.  It will then be switched off until around 4.30 p.m. when it will be possible to view the Papal Mass from Bellahouston and participate as far as possible including the distribution of Holy Communion.
  3. After the broadcast is finished at approximately 7.30 p.m. there will be refreshments available in the hall for those who wish to stay on.
  4. Today each person will receive a copy of ‘Magnificat’ a little booklet which provides you with all the texts and hymns for all the Papal events for the four days of the Holy Father’s visit.  Those travelling to Bellahouston should make sure they have a copy to use there. Please do not take copies for other people at the moment till we see how the numbers work out. People who take communion to housebound parishioners should take a copy for them.

Passkeepers from St. Cuthbert’s and from Our Lady’s will be needed to welcome people and be on hand to help things run smoothly. Passkeepers who can help please sign on the list at the back of the Church indicating what time slots you can help with.
Much more detail is available on the official web site for the visit which is www.thepapalvisit.org.uk
Tuesday: The Rainbows have restarted in the hall from 5.30 p.m. – 6.30 p.m.  for girls aged 5 – 7.  New members of the pack would be very welcome.  Further information from Laine Davison on 0775.1823280.
Thursday: The tea/coffee morning has resumed in the house after morning Mass.  All welcome.
Thursday: The Keep Fit Class is resuming in the hall from 7.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.  All ages welcome to come along and take part.
Next Sunday: The Children’s Liturgy celebrations start again after the holiday break for children from P1 – P7.  The children celebrate the first part of the Mass in a way that is suitable for their age and is a very valuable way of helping them grow in faith.  I would encourage parents of children of this age to let their children take part.  If parents are interested in learning more about or even helping they are welcome to contact Janice Millhouse on 443.4673 or any of the leaders.
Next Sunday: The annual National Pilgrimage in honour of St. Margaret will take place in Carfin with Mass at 3.00 p.m.  Cardinal O’Brien is the main celebrant and Archbishop Conti will be the preacher. All welcome.

Diary Dates:
8th – 10th October:
The ‘Beginning Experience’ is holding a weekend for those who find themselves alone again through divorce, separation, or bereavement. It will take place in St. Mary’s Kinnoull in Perth.  More details are available from Anne on 0141.443.1371 or via email on anne_pat@btinternet.com

Prayer for the Pope’s Visit.

God of truth and love,
Your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light
To all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace
To be faithful in word and deed
May we reflect the kindly light of Christ
And offer a witness of hope and peace to all.
We pray for Pope Benedict
And look forward with joy
To his forthcoming visit to our countries
May he be a witness to the unity of hope which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Our Lady, Mother of the Church - pray for us
St. Andrew - pray for us
St. George - pray for us
St. David - pray for us.
