Today: SCIAF have launched a disaster fund to help with the after effects of the terrible earthquake in Nepal. I know we seem to be having a lot of retiral collections just now but I hope you will respond generously as you always do, to the retiral collection which will be taken up for this fund at the end of Mass

Today marks the second weekend in May. If you wish, over the weekends of May, you would be welcome to bring either a single flower or a bunch of flowers which would be gathered at the start of Mass and then taken to the statue of Our Lady. Hopefully this would build up into a great shrine of flowers symbolising our devotion to Our Lady.

Today: Some of the new rotas for Church Cleaning are still in the sacristy.  Those involved please collect your copy today. Some of the groups need new members.  If you would like to offer your services or find out more about what is involved please contact Jean O’Rourke on 443.4651.

Today: Some of the new readers’ rotas are still awaiting  collection from the sacristy after Mass.  Please take your copy today.

Tuesday: The Monthly Mass for Vocations will take place in the Little Sisters of the Poor at 7.30 p.m.  All welcome.  Car parking is available.  Refreshments served after Mass.

A Holy Day of Obligation.

Mass in Our Lady’s at 10.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.

Next Saturday/Sunday is the World day of Prayer for Communications. There will be a retiral collection to support the work of the Scottish National Communications Office.  There is a Letter from Archbishop Tartaglia available after Mass giving more details.

Diary Dates:

27th May: Archbishop Cushley will be administering the Sacrament of Confirmation to the children of St. Cuthbert’s, Our Lady’s and St. John Ogilvie’s at 7.00 p.m. in the Church.  It will be his first official visit to St. Cuthbert’s so I hope there will be a good response from St. Cuthbert’s parishioners, first and foremost, to support the children as they take this important step on their journey of faith and then to meet the Archbishop informally in the Hall afterwards.

31st May: Sponsored Walk in aid of Parish Project Fund.  Walkers will gather at the Hawes Inn in South Queensferry at 1.30 p.m. and walk along the coast returning to the Inn for recovery treatment. It is about six miles. Forms are available at the back of the Church. More details in due course but you can start collecting sponsors now please.

13th June: The first Open Forum meeting of the Catholic Education Commission will take place at the Gillis Centre in Edinburgh.  The theme of the morning is: “Developing Catholic Teachers and School Leaders: to ensure the future of Scotland’s Catholic schools”.   Members of the Scottish Catholic community – parents, teachers, clergy – are invited to discuss issues such as: How are teachers being recruited, educated and supported to work in Catholic schools?

14th June: Celebration of First Communion during the 10.00 a.m. Mass for the children of St. Cuthbert’s

30th June – 4th July:  ‘Setting out on the Road’ – an introductory course on teaching Religious Education in Catholic schools, leading to an award of a certificate by the Scottish Catholic Education Service recognised by the Catholic Bishops of Scotland. Further details can be found on the notice board.

SCIAF Wee Boxes: If you have been collecting money for SCIAF in this way please remember that the money must be in SCIAF’s hands by 17th May (the end of this week) to enable them to claim the £1 for £1 which the UK Government has promised.

A thank you letter has been received from Sister Monica who made the appeal last weekend on behalf of the St. Peter Claver Sisters acknowledging receipt of the cheque for £1013.00 from the retiral collection.  She says ‘Please convey my thanks to all the parishioners for their wonderful generosity.  I never cease to be amazed at the goodness of people in these difficult times.  In return be assured of my grateful prayers.’

With every best wish and blessing

to you, your families

And all those who are dear to you.

Monsignor Tony.
