Today is the 50th World Communications Day.  There is a letter from Archbishop Tartaglia to be collected as you leave Mass.  There should have been a retiral collection as you are leaving Mass but, given that we have had three collections on three consecutive Sundays, I have deferred it until next Saturday / Sunday.

Today:  If you wish, over the weekends of May, you would be welcome to bring either a single flower or a bunch of flowers which would be gathered at the start of Mass and then taken to the statue of Our Lady. Hopefully this would build up into a great shrine of flowers symbolising our devotion to Our Lady.

Today: If you have not already done so, please collect a copy of the booklet ‘Cluster Parishes Together Handbook.’ This is the booklet which will be used in the next stage of the debate and discussion on the way forward for the Archdiocese.  Please read it carefully.  In due course meeting dates and venues will be notified.

Sunday: The Coffee Morning will take place in the Hall after Mass, organised by the Noisy Nutters Group.  Bacon rolls etc will be available.

Tuesday: ‘Freedom of Religion and Belief for all’ – a discussion with Cardinal Charles Bo of Yangon in Myanmar/Burma n the Lauriston Centre from 2.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. All welcome.

Thursday: Meeting for parents of children preparing for Confirmation and First Communion at 7.00 p.m. in the Church Hall. Every child being presented should be represented but the children do not need to be present.

Friday: Monthly Vocations Mass will be celebrated at 7.30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s, Gilmore Place. Refreshments served afterwards.  All welcome.

Diary Dates:

22nd May: Practice in St. Cuthbert’s at 2.00 p.m. for those being confirmed by Archbishop Cushley. If possible, sponsors also should attend.

24th May: The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered by Archbishop Cushley on the children from St. Cuthbert’s, Our Lady’s, St. Joseph’s, St. John Ogilvie’s and St. Mary’s Ratho all of whom have been preparing over these past weeks. The ceremony is here at 7.00 p.m. and all are welcome.

3rd June: Free Film and Popcorn Evening at the Ogston Hall in Balerno. Doors open 7.00 p.m. and Sister Act begins at 7.30 p.m. Admission is free but donations would be welcome. Soft drinks, DVDs and raffle will be available on the night with all money raised going towards the costs of the young people travelling to Lourdes to work on the Archdiocesan Pilgrimage.

12th June:   The annual summer pilgrimage in honour of St Margaret of Scotland will take place in Dunfermline. From 10.00 a.m.  pilgrims can explore the many historic sites associated with our national patroness. Pilgrim guides will be on hand. At 3.00 p.m.  a grand procession of St Margaret’s relics will make its way through the town concluding with Holy Mass at 4.00 p.m.  in St Margaret’s Memorial Church celebrated by the Archbishop. All are very welcome. It should be a great family day out! For more information please contact the Parish Priest, Father Chris Heenan at st.margaretdunfermline@gmail.com

Volunteeers needed (1): Spred – Special Religious Development – is a spiritual programme existing to nourish and nurture faith in children and adults with a learning disability. At present there are 13 groups throughout the Archdiocese with a maximum of 8 adult volunteers in each group with 6 learning disabled.  We are

hoping to be able to start a new children’s group in the SPRED Centre at 26 George Square Lane next September. However we very much need people to come forward as volunteers to do the necessary training. If you think this is something you might be interested in, please contact Emma Robertson on 07707811595 or by email at Emma.Robertson@staned.org.uk
