Advent Devotions: These will take the form of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction for one hour from the end of Mass on a Sunday.  Hopefully some people will stay on, others might go round to the Hall for a roll and then come back or whatever.  It is an opportunity to take time to prepare in a prayerful way for the coming Feast.

The theme for this Second Sunday of Advent picks up on the opening prayer of the Mass where we are encouraged ‘to learn heavenly wisdom.’ The scriptures present the core message of Advent first of Isaiah’s  prophetic call to reshape our lives, in St. Peter’s ominous reminder of the world’s end and in John the Baptist’s call to repentance. But there is still a note of joy. ‘Console my people’ says Isiah.  Peter reminds us of God’s patience and desire for the salvation of all and John the Baptist tells of promises of the promises of the gifts that will be given to us by the One who comes after him. So, are we ready ?  Have we learned heavenly wisdom ?  If not what are we going to do about it ?

As in past years, we will collect for two charities.  Today we will be collecting gifts for the children of prisoners in Saughton Prison.  These are gifts for children up to the age of 12 and, if possible, should be clearly marked with the age and sex of the child.  Often children of prisoners suffer as a result of their mother or father being in prison at this time. Many thanks to those who have already brought gifts

Next week we will collect for the homeless here in Edinburgh and the gifts will be distributed through the St. Catharine’s Convent homeless project.

Today: Eucharistic Ministers please collect their new rotas.  They come into effect next weekend.

Sunday: The Coffee Morning takes place after Mass with the Fair Trade Group in charge. All welcome in the hall for bacon rolls, teas etc.

Saturday: Do yu have an hour or so to spare around 11.00 a.m.  After the boiler work, there is fair bit of tidying and cleaning to do and things need to be moved back.  If you can help it would be much appreciated.

The installation of the new boilers is even nearer completion.  The fan blowers have been connected but at the moment there is only half pressure getting through until the Gas Board finish putting a new, bigger supply pipe in.  There is some heat now in the house and church and the hot water is back. Thank you for your patience over these past weeks.
