Advent Devotions: These will take the form of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction for one hour from the end of Mass on a Sunday.  Hopefully some people will stay on, others might go round to the Hall for a roll and then come back or whatever.  It is an opportunity to take time to prepare in a prayerful way for the coming Feast.

The Liturgy for this Third Sunday of Advent picks up on the opening prayer of the Mass where we are encouraged ‘to solemn worship and glad rejoicing.’ We are invited in other words to rejoice as we wait in hope for the coming of Christ. Isaiah, in the first reading reminds us that every year is a year of favour from the Lord – of healing, justice and salvation.  Paul too, in the second reading, calls to constant rejoicing, unceasing prayer and integrity of life as we prepare for the Lord’s coming and finally, in the Gospel, John the Baptist reminds us that the One whose coming we long for is already in our midst if we have eyes to see.  Do we ?
