Today is Mission Sunday the day when the Church throughout the world prays for the work of those involved in missionary activity of all sorts. There will be a retiral collection for the work of Missio Scotland, which through the Vatican supports Missionary activity in different countries e.g. a baby’s home on the outskirts of Kampala in Uganda. This takes care of babies who have been abandoned, neglected or orphaned.

Today: The updated Eucharistic Ministers’ Rotas are ready for collection from the sacristy. They come into effect next weekend so please take your copy away with you today since there are changes.

Sunday: The Coffee Morning in the Hall will be organised by the Ladies Group this week. All are welcome after Mass.

Sunday – Saturday: I will be on pilgrimage to Lourdes as chaplain to a National Across group on the Jumbulance. I will be remembering you and your intentions in my prayers at the Grotto. .

Emergency Contact if needed while I am away please contact Father Tom (449.2372), Fr. Tony Quinlan (453.5035) or the Augustinian Community at St. Joseph’s (443.3777)

Tuesday:  The Newman Association monthly meeting will be on ‘Local Varieties of Christian Communities.’  A panel of representatives speak and respond to questions. in Mayfield Salisbury Church Hall  at 7.30pm.

All are warmly welcome to attend. A small donation is requested to cover our expenses.

Saturday: Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Kentigern’s, to mark 70th Anniversary of the Archdiocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage and the Edinburgh Lourdes Hospitalité. Archbishop Cushley will be the main celebrant. The Mass will be followed by a celebratory Meal & Reception in the Hall. You are very welcome to attend one of these events if you cannot make both. Diary Dates:

3rd November: ‘Romero: Heartbeat of El Salvador’ – a play by RISE theatre in association with the Romero Trust, looking at the life and legacy of the man who chose to challenge those in power and stand up for social justice. It is being performed in Lauriston Main Hall at 7.30 p.m.  (It is only suitable for those 11+) and tickets can be obtained by contacting Andrew Cassidy on pastoral@lauriston.org.uk or on 229.9821.  Poster and fliers are at the back of the Church.

4th November: St. Joseph’s care Home Christmas Fete from 1.30 p.m. Admission is £1.00 with free tea and coffee and a whole range of stalls to spend money on.

4th November:  You are warmly invited to a service of prayer and reflection in St. Mary, Star of the Sea at 2.00 p.m. It is for anyone who has experienced abuse, for anyone who have been affected and for anyone who wishes to show their concern and support for survivors and their families. The service will last about 40 minutes and there will be tea and coffee in the hall afterwards. This is being organized by lay Catholics from different parishes. For more information please contact Marie Louise Cochrane 0131 467 1449 or email marielouisecochrane@blueyonder.co.uk

18th November: Parish Project Table Sale from 11.00 a.m. until 1.00 p.m. It’s like a car boot sale without a car ! The idea is that you book a table and then you choose what you sell from it (as long as it is legal).  Any profit you make is yours unless you choose to donate it on. The cost of booking a table is £20.00 and there is a list at the back of the Church on which you can indicate if you are interested in supporting this event.

Many thanks: The new running total for the Parish Project Fund is now £3286.56.  Well done to anyone who has contributed in any way to achieving this total. If you want to do some fundraising just let me know so that it can be advertised and also to coordinate dates etc.

All Hall Users Please note: The refurbishment work on the ladies toilets is underway. As a result they are sealed off and unusable. Toilet facilities are available beside the Committee Room and at the toilet in the side hall normally reserved for people with a disability. This situation will last for a while so please be patient.

With every best wish and Blessing

To you, your families

and those who are dear to you.

Monsignor Tony.
