Sunday: The coffee morning takes place after Mass with the Ladies group in charge. You are all welcome to go round to the Hall after Mass to sample the fare on offer.
Tuesday: The first of a series of eight talks for the next eight weeks at the Cathedral for young people 18-35. The first one is called ‘The Universe Made for Christ.’ At the end of the series there will be a retreat for Pluscarden Abbey. You don’t have to go to all the talks to qualify for the retreat either nor do you have to make the retreat.
Wednesday: Today is kept as Holocaust Memorial Day and has as its theme ‘Don’t stand by.’ It is a day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered or whose lives were changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The Justice & Peace Group at the Sacred Heart invite you to join them in the sacred Heart for an hour of silent prayer at 7.00 p.m. Donations welcome to support the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
Friday: Fund raising night in St. Cuthbert’s Hall including Salsa exhibition, teaching and opportunity to dance, 60’s singing and raffle all to help raise some funds for two young parishioners Tony and Tanya Fakhoury from Our Lady’s who are travelling to Krakow for the World Youth Day in July. Tickets will be available after Mass, costing £5.00 and £3.00 including food.
Next Sunday: Enrolment ceremony for the children preparing for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion will take place during 10.00 a.m. Mass.
Diary Dates:
7th February: Annual Mass to mark the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes will take place at 3.00 p.m. in the Church with refreshments in the Hall afterwards. All are welcome.
8th February: Workshop on how to apply for teaching – Glasgow University will host an event for all S5 and S6 students, and others, who would like to apply for Catholic teaching. This will take place at the Gillis Centre on the 8th February from 10am to 2pm, with lunch provided. 14th February: Rite of Election ceremony at 3.00 p.m. in the Cathedral presided over by Archbishop Cushley. During this ceremony those who are journeying to Baptism and acceptance into full membership of the Church at the Easter Vigil take the next step on their journey. We have four parishioners who are involved. All are welcome to attend. (This is not a Mass but a Liturgy of the Word,)
17th February: The Lenten Station Mass for the City of Edinburgh will be taking place in St. Cuthbert’s at 7.00 p.m. with Archbishop Cushley as the Principal celebrant. Candidates, from the city parishes, including those from St. Cuthbert’s, will be presented with copies of the Creed as the next step on their journey to the Easter Vigil.
‘Day by Day’ and ‘Living Faith booklets for January are now ready for collection and sale at the stall. If you have ordered one please collect it today.
200 Club subscriptions for 2016 are now due. If you wish to renew your subscription please put your name and number on an envelope with you subscription. It costs £12.00 for the year’s membership. If you are taking out a subscription for the first time simply write new member on the envelope containing your money.
The numbers have dropped considerably due to the deaths of members, members, moving away and others not paying their subscription for whatever reason. As it stands, there are 79 numbers unallocated. If it continues at this level the prize money will have to be reduced to comply with legal requirements. We need 12 new members and all existing members to renew their subscription to be legal.
