Today: Due to the mid term break, Catholic Education Sunday was deferred by the local cluster schools. It will take place this weekend and there will be a retiral collection for the work of the Catholic Education Commission along with a leaflet distributed at the end of Mass.

Today The SCIAF materials for their Lenten campaign, including the Wee Box, are available as you leave Mass.

Today: The new readers’ rota is ready for collection from the sacristy after Mass. It comes into effect next week so please do nout put off collecting your copy in case you are on.

Sunday: The Coffee morning will take place in the hall after Mass with the Ladies group in charge. All welcome to go round and sample the bacon rolls etc.

A day of Fasting and Abstinence

Fasting means reducing the amount of food which we would normally eat.   Abstinence means not eating meat.  The law of Fasting binds all those who are between eighteen years of age and sixty years of age. The law of Abstinence binds everyone (except for the frail and the sick) once they have reached their fourteenth birthday.

Masses will be at 9.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.

Ashes will be distributed at both Masses.

Friday: Annual World Day of Prayer Service in St. Michael’s Church of Scotland at 2.00 p.m. on the theme ‘Am I being unfair to you ?’ – prepared by the women of the Philippones.  All welcome.  More information on the fliers at the back of the Church.

Next Saturday: As part of their preparation for celebrating their First Reconciliation, the boys and girls of P3 will be taking part in a Ceremony of Light during the 6.00 p.m. Mass.

Next Saturday/Sunday a speaker from Aid to the Church in Need will speak about the work this important organisation carried out. He will be asking for your prayers and also your financial support by way of a retiral collection.

 

Diary Dates:

12th March: Do you know someone who suffers from Dementia/Alzheimer’s illness? Do you know someone who cares for a relative or friend ?  If so then you will be welcome to a workshop to learn more about this illness and its impact and also to see what we can do to help in any way.  The workshop will take place in St. Cuthbert’s Hall at 2.00 p.m.

15th March: A safeguarding training session will take place in the Church Hall at 7.30 p.m. led by one the training team from the Archdiocese. This is an essential requirement for all parishioners who are members of the PVG scheme or who are in the process of joining it. If you have any concerns please ask Mairi Allen, the parish safe guarding coordinator or myself.

31st March – 2nd April: The Beginning Experience are holding a residential weekend for those who find themselves alone through divorce, separation or bereavement. If interested please contact Ros on 0131.669.0003 or by email at rcm2524@scotland.co.uk

7th – 14th July: The annual Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, led by Archbishop Cushley, will take place. Booking is now open and I have some forms and information if you are interested. I have a limited supply in the sacristy. You can also contact the travel agents direct at Tangney Tours, Pilgrim House, Station Court, Borough Green, Kent TN15 8AF (Tel. 01732.886666 or email to info@tangney-tours.com).  Booking for the Saint-Frai Centre must be done through the Hospital Booking Secretary, 61 Hailes Gardens, Edinburgh EH13 0JN – Tel 0131.441.1939.  Early booking is advised since there are limited places available especially in the Saint Frai centre.
